Leukocyte disorders
White blood cells serve a number of individual functions but collectively they are involved in defending the body from infectious diseases and foreign bodies. Deficiency or excess will result in a compromised immune system. Deficiencies are often as a result of; drugs, radiation, bone marrow diseases, or severe infections.
White blood cells 4 to 11 x 10 9/l (4,000 to 11,000 per cubic millimeter of blood)
Neutrophils 2.0 to 7.5 x 10 9/l (2,000 to 7,500 per cubic millimeter of blood)
Lymphocytes 1.3 to 4.0 x 10 9/l (1,300 to 4,000 per cubic millimeter of blood)
